Staff Lieutenant General (Pilot) Salem bin Hamad bin Mohammed bin Aqeel Al Nabit, Chief of Staff of Qatar Armed Forces, recently attended the flag-raising ceremony of the State of Qatar on the “Al Zubarah” Class Corvette.

The Qatari Ministry of Defence was represented by Commander of the Amiri Naval Forces, Major General (Navy) Abdullah bin Hassan Al Sulaiti. The inauguration ceremony was attended also by Brigadier General (Navy) Hilal Ali Al Mohannadi, the Qatari military attaché in the Italian Republic, and several senior officers of the Qatari Armed Forces.

The new warship is the first of four “Al Zubarah” corvettes ordered by the Qatari Ministry of Defence as part of its national naval acquisition programme.

Also present at the inauguration ceremony was Senator Stefania Pucciarelli, Italy’s Undersecretary of State for Defence along with Giuseppe Giordo, General Manager Naval Vessels Division of Fincantieri and the representative of the Italian Chief of Staff.
