Ambassadors, defence and commercial attachés, military representatives and exhibitors received technical insights on four key elements of DIMDEX
Doha, Qatar – 4 February 2020: The organising committee of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) held a successful diplomat briefing session focused on the preparation of the upcoming event at Sharq Village and Spa yesterday, which was attended by high-level diplomats. A fixture on the global maritime defence and security calendar, DIMDEX 2020 expects an unprecedented turnout of exhibitors and attendees from up to 80 countries.
Under the theme ‘Connecting the World’s Maritime Defence and Security Community’, DIMDEX 2020 will be held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, and hosted and organised by Qatar Armed Forces, at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).
Attendees of the delegate briefing session received key information and technical details on the event including the four key elements of DIMDEX 2020: the main exhibition, the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), networking opportunities with VIP delegates from around the world, and the Visiting Warships Display at Hamad Port.
Speaking on the sidelines of the diplomat briefing, Staff Brigadier (Sea) Abdulbaqi S. Al-Ansari, Chairman of DIMDEX said: “We are honoured to receive ambassadors, defence and commercial attachés, and representatives from the military at today’s briefing in preparation of DIMDEX 2020. Building on the success of our last edition, the DIMDEX organising committee remains committed to the highest standards of logistical pre-event planning to ensure the smooth progression of the event.”
Notably, the briefing covered the day-to-day event programme, hospitality and service offers for VIP delegations, Hamad Port logistics and security for visiting warships, and the naval crew sports tournament, among other topics.
Details on the highly-anticipated Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) - a key feature of every DIMDEX edition - were released, including this year’s keynote speakers and the 2020 conference theme: “Resilience in the Maritime Domain – Confronting Asymmetric Threats”. MENC will bring together renowned academics and practitioners from around the world to engage in panel discussions and discuss the latest regional and international trends in maritime defence and security on a commercial, strategic and operational level.
Following a highly successful 12-year run, DIMDEX 2020 is set to return with a larger exhibition space than ever before, spanning over 35,000 sqm at the QNCC, where key decision makers, official VIP delegations and senior government ministers will be able to meet and discuss future procurement needs.
In 2018, over 13,000 visitors and participants from 69 countries were in attendance with a record-breaking 35 partnerships, agreements and MOUs signed throughout the event days. With invitees from over 80 countries, DIMDEX 2020 is set to exceed these numbers and welcome an
unprecedented visitor turnout, including regional and global exhibitors to showcase the latest innovations in the maritime and naval sphere, including cybersecurity, anti-piracy systems and C5iSR systems.
As a fixture in the international maritime defence and security calendar, DIMDEX continues to advance trade relations and partnership among key decision-makers from government and industry.
