Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) Announces Mwani Qatar as Silver Sponsor for Upcoming Seventh Edition

Doha, Qatar – 14 January 2020: Bolstering their joint commitment to the development of a secure national maritime infrastructure, the organising committee of Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) has announced Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) as a ‘Silver Sponsor’ for its seventh edition, which will return to the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) in less than 100 days. DIMDEX 2020 will be held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and will be hosted and organised by Qatar Armed Forces under the theme ‘Connecting the World’s Maritime Defence and Security Community’.

Highlighting the significance of the sponsorship agreement, Staff Brigadier (Sea) Abdulbaqi S. Al-Ansari, Chairman of DIMDEX, said: “For the upcoming 2020 edition, we are delighted to further strengthen our collaboration with Mwani Qatar, and welcome the nation’s leading seaport and shipping terminal operator, as a silver sponsor. This association highlights a common strive towards the progressive development of Qatar’s maritime security sector through advanced technology and infrastructure capabilities. It also forms an extension to one of the integral features and key highlights of DIMDEX: The Visiting Warships Display.”

With the support of Mwani and the facilities of Hamad Port - one of the largest ports in the Middle East with an annual capacity of 7.5 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) - DIMDEX will be able to accommodate visiting vessels of international navies while welcoming patrons to visit and experience the warships and meet the crew. Since its inaugural 2008 edition, DIMDEX has welcomed more than 80 naval ships from around the world, to dock at Qatar’s leading seaports.

“The organising committee of DIMDEX is preparing for a record-breaking event that will set new benchmarks in visitor numbers, exhibitor space and commercial deals concluded under its scope. We are honoured to make a remarkable contribution to the international security and defence dialogue, whilst drawing on the expertise of our esteemed sponsors,” he concluded.

DIMDEX has inspired collaborations on national and international levels, accruing deals worth over USD 32 billion since 2008. The last edition alone resulted in an unprecedented 35 partnerships, agreements, and memorandums of understanding, and over 13,000 visitors – including more than 180 exhibitors.

In 2020, participants and exhibitors with significant representation from Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East are expected to present the latest innovations in the global defence and maritime security industry. As a distinguished sponsor, Mwani Qatar will benefit from the event’s unparalleled international exposure.

Hamad Ali Al Ansari, Manager of Public Relations and Communication at Mwani Qatar, said: “We are proud to be part of DIMDEX 2020 as a ‘Silver Sponsor’ and reconfirm our commitment to support events that are aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030.”

“Following the great success in 2018, we look forward to this year's edition by facilitating and hosting participating vessels at Hamad Port and providing all the facilities and support necessary for them. As a leading event in the global maritime defence and security industry calendar, DIMDEX has become an ideal platform to find appropriate solutions for entities responsible for securing sea routes, international borders, and regional waters.”

As an integrated port and logistics services provider, Mwani Qatar oversees the nation’s seaports and shipping terminals in addition to its specialised expertise in navigation assistance, pilotage, towage, Aids to Navigation (AtoNs), and cargo handling. The organisation’s stake in the development of Hamad Port forms a substantive contribution to Qatar’s positioning as a regional logistics hub, boasting a highly-developed maritime infrastructure across Hamad Port, Al Ruwais Port and Doha Port.
