Fincantieri has launched the Qatar Emiri Navy’s third Al Zubarah Class Corvette, named “Al Khor” at its Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard.

The Italian shipbuilder will deliver the new corvette to the Qatar Emiri Navy in 2022.

The launch ceremony was attended by Staff Brigadier General Abdulla Ali Al-Mazroey, Flotilla Commander of Qatar Emiri Navy, Vice Admiral Giorgio Lazio, Italian Navy Maritime Commander – Area North, and Marco Acca, Deputy General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division of Fincantieri.

The highly versatile corvettes have excellent nautical qualities, seaworthiness and long range, with the ability to operate in open seas on missions and manage protracted helo operations. Their operational capabilities are comparable to those of medium-size frigates and the flight deck and hangar on the Al Zubarah Class are sized for hosting one NH90 helicopter.
