DIMDEX 2014: “Maritime Domain Spotlight – MENA region and International Strategic Trends”

Following the footsteps of the previous successful editions, MENC continued to enlighten participants and world-class industry experts with an astute examination of the latest trends in the maritime defence and security field. Participating delegates had the opportunity meet industry professionals and academics and receive first-hand insights into the latest geo-strategic industry trends. Several topics were discussed including regional maritime security developments, future challenges and ways of overcoming them.
Speakers of this edition included:
Rear Admiral Antoine Beaussant, Commander of French Naval Forces in the Indian Ocean, French Navy, who discussed ‘Regional Strategic Turbulence in the 21st Century: Understanding Global Challenges and the Need for Cooperation.’
Rear Admiral Antonio Natale, Head of VII Dept., Ships Design & Combat System, Italian Navy General Staff, who spoke on ‘The Italian Navy’s Innovative Approach in Dealing with Maritime Challenges and the Need for a Multirole and Balanced Navy in the 21st Century.’
Rear Admiral Frank Trojahn, Commander, Royal Danish Navy, led a talk on ‘An Update from the Royal Danish Navy on Experiences and Challenges Related to Past, Present and Future Operations in the MENA Maritime Domain’.
Rear Admiral Mark Campbell, Head of Navy Capability, Royal Australian Navy, presented ‘A Briefing by the Royal Australian Navy on its Commitment to Regional Maritime Security and Interoperability with Other Naval Forces’.
Rear Admiral Eugenio Diaz Del Rio, Commander, NATO Standing Maritime Group-2, Spanish Navy, spoke on ‘The Perspective of the Spanish Navy on Maritime Security and Naval Forces Development’.
Rear Admiral Ather Mukhtar SI(M), Director General, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, held a session titled ‘A Look at Policy and Regulatory Frameworks Governing the Maritime Sector’.
This was followed by a presentation by Commodore Keith Blount, Deputy Commander, Combined Maritime Forces, Royal Navy, on ‘Multinational Cooperation in the MENA Maritime Domain: Strengthening Common Maritime Defence Policies and Coordinated Activities to Safeguard National Assets and Ensure Regional Security’.
Captain Rahim Conguloglu, Chief of Staff, Turkish Coast Guard Command, held the final session on ‘The Turkish Coast Guard’s Perspective on Law Enforcement in Littoral Waters’.
